Course Outline 2012

Excellence in Orthodontics 2012 will take place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 April 2012 at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 27 Sussex Place, London.  It will follow a similar format to Excellence in Orthodontics 2011.

Excellence in Orthodontics 2011 took place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 April 2011 at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 27 Sussex Place, London. The RCOG pleasantly situated on the south-west edge of Regent's Park and has a new and impressive self-contained conference suite capable of holding 200 delegates.


Course Outline

The course is a lecture course and will cover the following topics:

  • developments in contemporary orthodontics
  • the extraction non-extraction debate
  • preferred bracket systems, prescriptions and mechanics
  • self-ligating brackets and molar tubes, including theory and practice.
  • anchorage including the use of miniscrew implants (TADS)
  • functional appliances
  • indirect precision bonding systems such as OrthoCAD and Insignia and the move towards custom appliance systems; digital orthodontics
  • bonding and debonding
  • archwire technology, archform
  • impacted canines
  • management of difficult malocclusion including unerupted teeth, deep overbites, anterior open bites, space closure and class 2 division ii and class 3 malocclusions
  • finishing, stability, retention philosophies and techniques
